Working in Fullerton

Infinity Electrical is a licensed electrical contractor working in Fullerton on panel upgrades, EV chargers, rewiring, repairs and commercial electrical work. Permits come from the City of Fullerton's Building and Safety Division, and Southern California Edison owns the lines and meter, even though the Orange County Power Authority is the city's default power supplier.

Fullerton is an old town by Orange County standards. It was incorporated in 1904, and the city's draft 2021–2029 housing element says over half of its housing units were built before 1970. Fullerton Heritage's survey traces the building eras: California bungalows from about 1918 to 1925, Spanish Colonial and cottage-style houses in the late 1920s, Minimal Traditional and early ranch houses at the end of the 1930s, then postwar ranch tracts and apartment complexes through the mid-1970s. A house from any of those decades was wired for lights, a refrigerator and perhaps a window unit, not for a car charger, a heat pump and an induction range all at once.

Census survey figures for 2020 to 2024 put Fullerton's owner-occupied rate at 51.8%, so close to half of homes are rented, and the city's 2024 financial report, as cited by Wikipedia, lists Cal State Fullerton, St. Jude Medical Center, Raytheon and Fullerton College among its largest employers. That mix means electrical work in Fullerton comes from homeowners planning an upgrade as well as owners of rentals and small commercial buildings. Infinity Electrical Inc. (CSLB #1100231) looks at the panel, the meter location and the planned loads in person before writing an estimate. Customer assistance is available in English and Spanish.

What's common in Fullerton homes

Fullerton's housing runs from early-twentieth-century bungalows near downtown to postwar tracts, newer hillside subdivisions and a large rental stock near the colleges, and each shapes the electrical work differently.

  • The older neighborhoods. Fullerton Heritage's survey names historic districts such as College Park, Upper and Lower Golden Hill, Jacaranda-Malvern-Brookdale, Hillcrest Drive and the east and west Townsite areas (among others; not a complete list). Bungalows and Revival houses of that age can still have original wiring, small services and meters on the front wall, and rewiring is routed so the street side stays as it is.
  • The Avenues. The Fullerton Observer described one of the newest preservation zones, west of downtown along West Chapman Avenue, as 61 one-story Minimal Traditional houses, most built in the 1940s and some among the city's first housing for World War II defense workers. Small houses from that era often have modest services and few circuits, so a remodel or an added appliance usually starts with a load calculation.
  • Postwar tracts. Ranch-style tracts and apartment complexes went up from the end of the war to the mid-1970s, and the housing element puts more than half of the city's units before 1970. Some of these panels are original or have been added onto over the years, which is where a panel upgrade or new circuits come in before a charger or heat pump.
  • Rentals and student housing. The draft housing element counts 22,120 renter households, and Cal State Fullerton and Fullerton College together had more than 60,000 students in 2019, according to Wikipedia. In apartments and rented houses, the questions are usually tripping breakers, two-prong outlets, added GFCI protection and kitchen or laundry circuits, and we work with the owner or property manager.
  • Mobile homes. The housing element allows mobile home parks in the R-MH zone, and the Fullerton Observer has reported that a large majority of mobile home residents in Fullerton are seniors; Rancho La Paz, a 55-and-over park, straddles the Fullerton and Anaheim line. The state's Department of Housing and Community Development is the enforcement agency for mobilehome parks unless a local agency has taken that role on with HCD's approval, so we confirm the inspecting agency for a park before work starts.
  • Industrial and commercial areas. The city's general plan names Airport Industrial, North Industrial and Southeast Industrial among its focus areas, and Wikipedia's list of the largest employers includes St. Jude Medical Center and Raytheon. Downtown's restaurants and shops and the offices around the campuses and the hospital are where tenant lighting, circuits and panel work come up.

Permits and power in Fullerton

Fullerton (ZIP codes 92831, 92832, 92833 and 92835) is an incorporated city with its own Building and Safety Division. Unlike Orange or Buena Park, it does not appear to have county islands inside it: none of the 23 unincorporated islands in Orange County LAFCO's June 2026 island report is associated with Fullerton. The ZIP lines don't follow the city limits exactly, though, so near the edges with Anaheim, Brea, Placentia, La Habra and Buena Park we confirm the city from the parcel before quoting.

Permits. The Building and Safety Division takes residential and commercial permit applications online through its Customer Self Service Portal, EasyDev, and lists a separate phone line for inspection requests. For permitted work such as a service change or a new circuit, we coordinate the application and the inspection as part of the job.

A streamlined path for EV chargers. Fullerton has a separate EV permit streamlining process. The applicant picks the form that fits the property, a residential single-family charger form, a multi-family EV charger form or a checklist for commercial sites, and submits it through EasyDev as a streamlined application. The city says these permits are responded to within 5 business days of submittal and that inspections are usually completed within 2 to 3 days of the call-in. Whether a charger fits on the existing panel is still decided by the load calculation, which we do during the estimate.

Who supplies the power. Fullerton is a member city of the Orange County Power Authority, along with Buena Park, Irvine and Fountain Valley. The city's community choice energy page says Fullerton set Smart Choice as the default plan for residents and businesses, that new accounts are enrolled in it automatically, and that customers can change plans or return to SCE's generation at any time. SCE still transmits and delivers the power and sends the bill, with OCPA's charges shown as Generation. For a panel job the supplier makes no difference: a panel upgrade or meter spot on an existing service is requested through SCE's project planning portal, while moving or removing SCE equipment is arranged by phone, and we coordinate that step with the permit.

Preservation zones. Fullerton Heritage, the local preservation group, says ten residential neighborhoods have been given a Residential Preservation Zone, and the city's planning pages show more under study, including Lower Golden Hill, Oceanview and Skyline Park in 2025. The residential preservation design guidelines published on Fullerton Heritage's site say air conditioners and other mechanical equipment should sit on the least visible parts of a house, screened or integrated with it when seen from the street, and that solar panels should be allowed only where they can't be seen from public streets. Those guidelines don't mention electric meters or conduit, so before a new meter location, exterior conduit or a charger on a street-facing wall in a preservation zone, we ask the city's planners how they will treat it.

Fire hazard areas. Fullerton's Fire Department says the City Council adopted CAL FIRE's updated fire hazard severity zones on May 6, 2025, in Municipal Code Chapter 13.19. The Fullerton Observer reported that the Very High zone grew from 1,186 to 1,516 acres, with new Moderate and High zones especially in the West and East Coyote Hills. The city's page links to the state viewer, where an address can be checked.

The permits and utilities guide explains the whole picture for the three counties we serve.

Around Fullerton

Anaheim, south of Fullerton, is the biggest contrast: the city runs Anaheim Public Utilities, which it calls the only municipal electric utility in the county, so a panel upgrade there follows APU's process rather than SCE's. Brea, Placentia, La Habra and Buena Park are separate cities with their own building departments, and all are SCE territory like Fullerton. Of those four, only Buena Park is an Orange County Power Authority member, which changes who supplies the power but not who owns the meter; it also has a small county area, Andora-Fairhope, that the County of Orange permits.

Questions people ask

Who supplies electricity in Fullerton, SCE or OCPA?

Both have a role: the Orange County Power Authority supplies the energy by default, and Southern California Edison delivers it, owns the meter and sends the bill. Fullerton set OCPA's Smart Choice as the default plan, and customers can change plans or return to SCE generation. A panel upgrade still goes through SCE's project portal whichever supplier shows on the bill; see panel upgrades.

How do I get an electrical permit in Fullerton?

Through EasyDev, the City of Fullerton's online self-service portal, which the Building and Safety Division uses for residential and commercial permit applications; inspections are requested through the division's inspection line. We coordinate the application and the inspection as part of the job.

Does Fullerton have a faster permit for a home EV charger?

Yes, Fullerton has an EV permit streamlining process: a single-family home uses the residential charger form, submitted through EasyDev, and the city says it responds within 5 business days. Apartment buildings and commercial sites have their own form and checklist. See EV charger installation.

My house is in a Fullerton preservation zone. Can the meter or panel be moved?

Possibly, but we ask the city's planners first. The preservation zone design guidelines want mechanical equipment on the least visible side of the house and screened from the street, though they don't name electric meters. Interior work such as rewiring doesn't change the street view.

Is my Fullerton address in the city or in unincorporated county land?

Almost always the city: Orange County LAFCO's June 2026 report lists no unincorporated islands associated with Fullerton. Near the borders with Anaheim, Brea, Placentia, La Habra and Buena Park, a Fullerton mailing address can still sit in a neighboring city, so we confirm the parcel before the estimate.

Do you work in Fullerton mobile home parks?

Yes, we take on repairs, new circuits and panel work in Fullerton parks for both the homeowners and the park operators. Park electrical systems generally fall under the state's mobilehome park rules, which HCD enforces unless a local agency has taken over, so we confirm who inspects before starting. Our mobile home electrical page has more.
