Outlets, switches and protection

Small jobs with real consequences. The outlets in your home are where most people meet their electrical system, and the protection behind them is what keeps a wet hand or a frayed cord from becoming an emergency.

What we do

  • New outlets where you need them: kitchen counters, home offices, garages, patios, behind the TV.
  • GFCI protection for kitchens, bathrooms, garages, laundry and outdoor locations.
  • AFCI protection for living areas, bedrooms and other circuits code now requires.
  • Tamper-resistant and USB outlets.
  • Dedicated circuits for microwaves, dishwashers, disposals, window AC units and workshop tools.
  • 240-volt outlets and circuits for dryers, ranges, spas and EV chargers.
  • Replacing worn, loose or two-prong outlets and fixing reverse-wired or ungrounded ones.
  • Weather-resistant outlets and in-use covers outdoors.

When a small job hints at a bigger one

Sometimes the outlet isn't the problem. Outlets that keep failing, warm switch plates, or a panel with no space left can point to wiring or service issues. If we see that on the visit we'll say so, with the options, rather than patching over it.

What changes the price

  • Number of outlets and whether a circuit exists nearby.
  • Wall type and access.
  • Dedicated or 240-volt circuits, which need their own run from the panel.
  • Permit requirements for new circuits.

Questions people ask

Where does code require GFCI protection?

Kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoor outlets, laundry areas, and anywhere else water and electricity are close. The exact list depends on the code cycle your city has adopted; we install to the current one.

What's the difference between GFCI and AFCI?

GFCI protects people from shock by cutting power when current leaks to ground. AFCI protects against fires by detecting arcing in damaged or loose wiring. Many circuits now need one or both.

Can you replace two-prong outlets with grounded ones?

Yes, when there's a ground available. When there isn't, code allows a GFCI-protected replacement with a label, and we'll explain the options for adding a ground.

Can you add a 240-volt outlet for a dryer, range or EV?

Yes. These need their own circuit sized to the appliance, and usually a permit.

My outlet is dead but the breaker isn't tripped.

Check for a tripped GFCI first, often in a bathroom, kitchen or garage. If that isn't it, the fault is in the wiring or a connection and needs a visit.
