Call (844) 430-7681Request an estimateInfinity Electrical provides panel upgrades, EV charger circuits, repairs, rewiring, mobilehome park electrical work and commercial and three-phase service in the City of Carson. Carson issues its own electrical permits through the city's Building & Safety team at City Hall, and Southern California Edison delivers the power while Clean Power Alliance, the regional community choice program Carson belongs to, supplies the energy for enrolled customers.
Carson sits in the South Bay and Harbor area, about 13 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, according to the city's general plan. It became a city in 1968 and took its name from George Henry Carson, who managed the old Dominguez rancho. The city's general plan describes a place with roots in oil extraction and refining, located near the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach, which the plan calls the country's two busiest maritime ports.
Most Carson homes predate the city itself. A Census table from the late 2000s puts about 29% of the housing in the 1960s and nearly 24% in the 1950s, and the city's 2021 housing element staff report says about 90% of Carson's housing was more than 30 years old by 2019. Infinity Electrical Inc. (CSLB #1100231) can check whether an older Carson service and panel can carry a car charger, a heat pump or a battery before the new equipment is chosen.

The city's 2021 housing element staff report, using state Department of Finance estimates, counted 26,451 housing units in Carson in 2020: 18,341 single-family detached houses, 2,404 attached homes, 706 units in buildings of two to four, 2,544 in buildings of five or more, and 2,456 mobile homes, about 9.3% of the total. About 73.1% of households owned their homes in 2019, and the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimate puts the owner-occupied rate at 74.0%.
The City of Carson (ZIP codes 90745, 90746, 90747, 90749 and 90810) covers about 18.7 square miles of land, by the Census Bureau's count, and had an estimated 90,808 residents in July 2025. The general plan places Compton to the north, Long Beach to the east, the Wilmington neighbourhood of the City of Los Angeles to the south and Torrance to the west, with unincorporated county communities such as West Carson and Rancho Dominguez along the edges. The San Diego Freeway (the 405) runs through the city, and the 110 and the 710 pass just outside it.
Carson runs its own permits. Although Carson borders unincorporated county land, building and electrical permits come from the city's Building & Safety team at City Hall, through the Carson Civic Access portal that opened on June 4, 2024. City inspections run Monday through Thursday, and on a main panel change the inspection comes before Edison sets the meter again, so the job is planned around that four-day week.
Edison delivers, CPA supplies. Carson is on Clean Power Alliance's list of member communities that began service in 2019-2020, alongside unincorporated Los Angeles County. CPA buys the electricity for enrolled customers, while SCE still owns the lines and the meter. That split does not change the electrical work itself: a panel upgrade or a meter spot on an existing service is requested through SCE's building, renovation and planning projects page, and SCE lists service relocations and overhead-to-underground conversions as requests handled by phone.
Batteries go past the building inspector. Carson's Building & Safety page states that a final inspection by the Los Angeles County Fire Department is required before a solar or energy storage system is used. The county fire department's guide for energy storage, PV and disconnects limits where a home battery may go (garages and outdoor walls, for example, but not inside living space, closets or bathrooms), sets clearances from doors, windows and lot lines, and calls for labelled disconnects. A home battery in Carson is laid out with those fire department rules in view from the start, not after the building permit.
A city that works as much as it sleeps. Carson's 2021 housing element staff report lists industrial uses as the largest land designation in the city, at 42.3%, ahead of residential at 28.2%, and describes expansive industrial and warehousing uses. The city's general plan maps show refineries within the planning area, and Wikipedia lists Marathon's refining operation as the city's largest employer in 2021. For electricians, that mix means three-phase services, warehouse lighting and equipment circuits on one side of a street and 1950s houses on the other.
The permits and utilities guide explains the whole picture for the three counties we serve.
Carson's borders change both the permit office and, in places, the power supplier. Torrance, to the west, has its own Building and Safety Division, and Long Beach, to the east, issues permits through its Building and Safety Bureau; neither is on Clean Power Alliance's member list, and Compton, to the north, is not on it either. Unincorporated West Carson, which meets Carson along the Harbor Freeway, and unincorporated Rancho Dominguez and West Rancho Dominguez get building services from Los Angeles County Public Works, and as unincorporated county land they fall in CPA's service area, like Carson. Wilmington, to the south, is part of the City of Los Angeles, so permits and power there follow City of Los Angeles rules rather than Carson's. A little farther out, Rancho Palos Verdes is not a CPA member.

The City of Carson does, through its Building & Safety team at City Hall on East Carson Street. Applications and plan check have gone through the city's Carson Civic Access portal since June 4, 2024. Los Angeles County Public Works issues permits only for unincorporated neighbours such as West Carson and Rancho Dominguez.
Because Carson is a Clean Power Alliance member community, so CPA supplies the energy for enrolled customers while Southern California Edison delivers it and owns the meter. Meter work for a panel upgrade is still requested through SCE, not CPA.
Sometimes, but it depends on what the panel already carries, so a load calculation comes first. With about three in four Carson homes owner-occupied and households averaging 3.38 people, a 1950s or 1960s service may already be busy before a workshop, a converted garage or an ADU adds compressors, heaters or a kitchen; a subpanel can work where there is spare capacity, and a panel upgrade where there is not.
Either the resident or the park owner can call, since Infinity Electrical works for both; ask park management first whether the job touches park-owned equipment such as the pedestal. Carson has 21 parks on the city's 2017 map, and HCD is the enforcement agency for mobilehome parks unless a local agency has been approved; see mobilehome electrical.
Yes; according to Carson's Building & Safety page, the Los Angeles County Fire Department must do a final inspection before a solar or energy storage system is used. The fire department's rules also limit where a battery may be mounted, so placement is settled before equipment is ordered; see backup power and whole-home or essentials battery backup.
Not necessarily, but a load calculation is the only way to tell. Close to a third of Carson's homes date from the 1960s, and some may still run on their original service; if the panel was replaced since, there may be room. See EV charger installation and EV chargers on a 100-amp panel.
Yes, including three-phase service work, equipment circuits, lighting and tenant improvements. Industrial is the largest land designation in Carson, at 42.3% according to the city's housing element staff report, so many buildings already have three-phase service; see commercial electrical.
